Seeking

We are a community seeking to know God, our world, and each other.

The Forum meets at 9:15 on Sunday mornings in the Woodbourne Room and on Zoom to explore local, national, and global issues in light of our faith.

Children learn the building blocks of faith through stories, games, and crafts in a multi-age Sunday School class that meets during worship: after the time with children, kids ages 5-11 head to the classroom right outside the sanctuary for this time of learning together.

Youth (5th-12th grades) meet on the third Sunday of each month during the school year from 5:30-7 to learn, have fun, and better understand who God is calling them to be in the world.

Faith’s Music Ministry encourages children, youth, and adults to make a joyful noise! Our choir is open to all.  Rehearsals are Sundays before and after worship, at 10:15 AM in the sanctuary and 12:15 PM in the chapel.

Our children and youth periodically prepare and share music in worship for our annual Christmas pageant, Easter celebration, and on youth Sunday.

We partner with Steel on Wheels to share our multi-octave steel pans for music education programs throughout the mid-Atlantic.  The instruments occasionally return home for steel pan classes and performances.

Bible Study meets weekly on Wednesday mornings at 11:00 a.m. on Zoom.  Rev. Cat Goodrich leads the group’s reflection on the scripture readings for the coming Sunday’s worship service. Together we explore the text using a loose lectio divina style, asking what God might be saying to us this week.

Book Club Meets the fourth Thursday in members’ homes over wine and snacks to reflect on that month’s selection. Our monthly books vary and include novels, mysteries, nonfiction, and sometimes classic works.  We are currently reading Everything is Tuberculosis by John Green.

Standing

We are a community that stands together, working for peace and calling for justice, and advocating for systemic change.

We are an Earth Care Congregation, promoting creation care on our property by recycling, using solar energy, and planting trees, rain and butterfly gardens, and through education, advocacy, and service.  In 2022, we removed 1/3 of our north parking lot and planted the Faith Forest. This project was enabled by a partnership with Blue Water Baltimore and Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake.

We are a Matthew 25 Church, a movement within the PCUSA that seeks to promote racial and economic justice and congregational vitality.

We are a More Light Church, promoting the full inclusion of LGBTQ+ people in the church and the world, and seeking to be a safe and a brave space for people of all gender and sexual identities.

We are home to the Immigration Outreach Service Center, which provides a number of essential services, including a legal clinic, ESOL classes, and a tutoring program.

Faith’s Social & Environmental Justice Council seeks to confront and dismantle systemic racism, build peace, and lift our neighbors out of poverty. We are a member congregation of BUILD (Baltimoreans United in Leadership Development), leading neighborhood efforts to organize for safety and investment in Chinquapin Park. We’re also a community partner to Nexus-Woodbourne Family Healing’s vocational training program, holding regular cooking classes through which teens can become ServSafe certified while learning cooking and kitchen skills.
