Sunday Worship

February 3, 2019 @ 10:45 am - 12:00 pm

Celebrate Black History Month and the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper this Sunday at 10:45. Rev. Mary. B. Speers sermon is “Love in 3D.” The lesson is I Corinthians 13. The Chancel Choir will sing Craig Courtney’s God, Thou Art Love.

February is Black History Month, initiated in 1915 by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH). Each February, the ASALH names a theme in African American history.

This year is the 400th anniversary of the first Africans brought to Virginia, in August 1619. For more than a year before the Mayflower set sail, there had been Africans laboring in bondage at the southern end of the Chesapeake Bay.

This year, therefore, the theme for Black History Month is Black Migrations, commemorating 400 Years of Perseverance. Our Faith Church Adult Forum, children’s activities, and worship will seek to reflect the complex layers of the African Diaspora in America and around the world.
